Our Route in North America in English
The maps below give a rough idea of the route we have planned so far. Starting in Anchorage, Alaska on 27th July 2007 we will head to Girdwood and Whittier, where we will take the ferry across Prince William Sound to Valdez. After, we will cycle to Tok via the Richardson Highway and then we take the Alaska Highway to Yukon and British Columbia in Canada before arriving in Haines (back in the States).
From Haines we have a break from cycling and take the ferry to Juneau and Prince Rupert (back in Canada), and then the Skeena train from Prince Rupert to Jasper via Prince George. Next, we have about three or four weeks to cycle the Icefields Parkway through the Rockies to Lake Louise and Banff and then West again to Vancouver. We'd love to hear from anyone with advice for this part of the route, in particular, roads to take, roads to avoid, places to see and places to stay.
From Vancouver we plan to cycle up the Sunshine Coast, ferry over to Vancouver Island, down Vancouver Island to Victoria before island hopping our way back to the U.S. and Seattle.
After this, it's South to Portland (again route tips welcomed), West to the Pacific, and then South, following the Pacific Coast Highway, through Oregon and California on Highway 1 through San Francisco and Los Angeles, and San Diego.
Our Route in Central America in English
Then we into Mexico to the Baja California and, when we reach the end of this, we'll have a welcome break in Cabo San Lucas in the first week in December.
A ferry to Los Mochis and a side trip to Copper Canyon come next before carrying on down the coast to Puerto Vallarta for Christmas, and another visit from various family members.
And, after much agonising and procrastinating we've decided that's quite enough cycling for one year! The adventure will continue in South America but using more traditional forms of transport.
